Meet Edward Slater

Edward Slater grew up in a large family in the country, where every day brought a new adventure. His childhood was filled with caring for farm animals, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with his father, who taught him to hunt and fish. Whether he was feeding cows, hogs, chickens, and hound dogs, chopping firewood in the winter, or mowing and raking the yard during the summer, those experiences helped shape the stories he tells today.

Many of Edward's books are inspired by real people, real places, and treasured family memories. A playful black-and-white cat from his childhood became the inspiration for B-Flat the Cat, while a mango tree planted for his young daughter inspired The Squirrel and the Mango Tree. What began as everyday moments have grown into stories that children can enjoy for generations.

Now retired, Edward enjoys spending his time writing stories that spark imagination, celebrate family, and encourage kindness, curiosity, and perseverance. His books remind young readers that adventures can be found almost anywhere, even in a backyard, on a farm, or beneath the branches of a favorite tree.

Edward is the proud father of one daughter and the grandfather of a beautiful granddaughter. He believes some of life's greatest treasures are the memories we create together, and he hopes each of his books becomes part of a family's own storytime traditions.
